Our Programs
Membership in the Koop provides valuable opportunities to participate in and help shape the direction of regional projects. Regional projects the Koop currently coordinates include the Nobody’s Perfect Parenting series and the Safe Kids & Youth (SKY) Coordinated Response, and the Koop is currently working alongside its partner agencies and other community stakeholders to develop a Foundry model in the region.
Nobody's Perfect Parenting
Nobody’s Perfect is a parenting education and support program for parents of children from birth to age five. It is designed to meet the needs of parents who are young, single, socially or geographically isolated or who have low income or limited formal education. It informs parents about the “whens,” “whats” and “whys” of the first five years of childhood. Participation is voluntary and free of charge to parents.
The Koop holds the contract with the Interior Health Authority and sub-contracts service delivery in Kootenay and Boundary communities in partnership with Koop member agencies including:
- Arrow & Slocan Lakes communities: Arrow & Slocan Lakes Community Services
- Boundary communities including Grand Forks, Christina Lake and Beaverdell: Boundary Family Services
- Castlegar: Kootenay Family Place
- Kaslo and North Kootenay Lake communities: North Kootenay Lake Community Services Society
- Nelson and Crawford Bay: Kootenay Kids Society
- Salmo: Salmo Community Resource Society
- Trail: Trail FAIR Society
Safe Kids & Youth (SKY) Coordinated Response
SKY aims to ensure that children and youth in the West Kootenay Boundary region who come forward about their experiences of abuse, violence or neglect receive the best possible response from the range of services they connect with.
Foundry
Foundry is a province-wide network of integrated health and wellness services for young people ages 12-24. Their integrated services make it possible for young people to access five core services in one convenient location: mental health care, substance use services, physical and sexual health care, youth and family peer supports, and social services.
A Foundry initiative is currently under development in the West Kootenay and Boundary regions. Stay tuned for more updates!
